Windy City Live's Ryan Chiaverini and Val Warner on their way to General HospitalDid you ever think of what it would be like to visit the set of General Hospital, or better yet have a role on the show?

Well, for Chicago television hosts, Ryan Chiaverini and Val Warner of ABC7's Windy City Live, this was no dream, but a reality. Both got to visit Port Charles recently and be a part of the action and become soap opera stars for the day. (The episode aired on November 9, 2016).

"I have to say, this was a lot of fun. Our job is in the studio and in front of cameras everyday, but seeing the General Hospital set was neat, "Chiaverini said. "I have to admit, as a kid I saw the show.  It was really great to be able to see the iconic nurses station in person.  It also was something to see the outside of the building resembling a hospital."

Warner agrees, saying it was truly a wonderful experience. "I must say it was very exciting and a different form of TV for me," she explained. "I come from a news background and now hosting a show, so this was definitely eye opening. To be honest, it was not exactly what I expected. It looked a bit different and smaller (the sets) than what you see on TV. It's more intimate."

When Chiaverini and Warner arrived on the General Hospital set, both said they were warmly greeted by cast and crew, who sort of took them under their wings.

Warner played Madison Larson, a high powered attorney and said it was fun. "I had a speaking part and really enjoyed this character. I guess I can see myself an attorney," Warner joked.

Chiaverini played Josh Simon, a bartender, a role he really liked. "Yes I got to mingle and it was a blast," he said. "I got to tell Mr. Jerome (William de Vry) that he can not be served. I admit, it felt a bit intimidating."

Chiaverini and Warner were in a scene together at Metro Court, but did not exchange dialogue. Both hosts added that they received the royal treatment from hair to make-up to wardrobe. Chiaverini joked that he could get used to this. Warner added that it was an enjoyable experience to get the Hollywood treatment up close.

Chiaverini revealed that doing a soap is more work than he thought.  "It really is. These actors work hard. There is a little improvising, and it's scripted," he said. "I was surprised to see that some actors actually have their scripts on set."

Chiaverini and Warner both also interviwed several General Hospital soap stars for a General Hospital special on Windy City Live.

Chiaverini admitted that his goal has always been to be an actor, but he needed more stability in his life, but the itch is still there. Upon teasing Warner, she commented, "I never turn down anything, but my collar."

"I would love to do both. I love Windy City Live, but yet I would love to have a recurring role on General hospital," Chevarini said. "I would like to establish some sort of character with this role and see where it goes. Heck! I'd love  to be involved in a good kissing scene. It would be on my bucket list."

Can Hollywood or a return to General Hospital be in the future for these two talented individuals? Well... like they say in true soap opera fashion....Tune in tomorrow.

Days of our Lives Guy Wilson: playing Will is a dream come true

The day Guy Wilson stepped in to play Will Horton, a beloved gay character on Days of our Lives, it was a day that his dream came true. "Oh without a doubt. I remember driving in and pulling into the lot. I kept thinking this is cool!" Wilson said. "Then when I got on the soundstage with the cameras and the lights started going on, I was like getting a little nervous. It was all surreal."

Did he have reason to be nervous? Of course! Not only is Will a coveted role to the show, but the part was previously played by Chandler Massey, who has won two Emmy Awards portraying Will. But for Wilson it is a job going to work. Massey left this past August to go back to college.
